dave: November 2007 Archives

Yet again this morning, I've been unable to read any of the SCMP on the internet.

How is it that the techies responsible for getting the SCMP on the internet can be so incompetent? Regurgitating pages from a database to a webpage is a solved problem, and has been for many years.

The non-availability happens at least once per week, sometimes more often. I also notice that there are clearly problems with the cookie handling, as sometimes the site remembers my logged-in status and sometimes it doesn't.

Incompetence or just lack of caring? I'm not sure, but it's pretty typical of our pseudo "free market" here, where there isn't any real competition for certain things and the main provider does the minimum possible.

The Daily Show historical archive is a superb example of a good user interface for historical content.
