Beligerent Warmongering

18 March, 2003

I don't often wax political on this site, but George Bush, what a fscking moron! The global village idiot, as he has been described. It looks like he's going to lead the USA to war despite the UN telling him to cool down. He'll probably lead the USA out of the UN and go back to a 'Manifest Destiny' era of politics where Americans think that every country should be exactly like them. "We believe in freedom of speech, as long as you say exactly what we do!" The USA, in Jerry Pournelle's words, has gone from Republic to Incompetent Empire.

Do you know something? We don't all want your 72 Oz steaks and weak beer, your big haired preachers and religious intolerance, your 'us vs them' politics and endemic corruption. We, the other countries in the world want to make our own mistakes, eat our own strange food, worship our own strange gods. We don't all want to be little towns in Texas, we want to be us. Chicken's feet for dinner, black beer to drink, raw fish for lunch, gods with eight arms to worship, or any other quirk we want. There are our quirks: there are many like them, but these are ours. The fact that there are communists in our government means that people voted for them, and likewise for conservatives. gays, muslims, jews and monarchists, as well as any other 'minority' which goes unrepresented in your simplistic system.

And Colin Powell, good Lord, I trusted that man. Now it turns out he's just another warmongering idiot following the party line and regurgitating plagiarised British Intelligence reports. (British Intelligence: cribbing a report they found on the web and changing some of the numbers? Q would spin in his grave. Has this whole episode sucked the brains of everyone involved dry?)

At least this whole war will ensure that Tony Blair will be reviled as the "Prime Minister who made Britain a target for Muslim Extremists". And Shrub, invading Iraq will yield nothing more than yet another generation of suicide bombers. You just don't understand Middle East politics. These people have been fighting for all of recorded human history. You really think putting a MacDonald's on every street corner will stop them? Your country has a few hundred years of history. Most other nations in the world have *thousands* of years experience. They're not trying to 'solve' the problems in the Middle East. What does that tell you? Maybe older, more experienced, hands don't think these problems have a simple solution? History will not treat you kindly, George 'Dubya' Bush. Your father was an intelligent man. you are not. You will lead your country into a crusade against Islam which will split it and cause generations of terror. For at least three generations, Americans will be scared. And maybe scarred. Scarred with terrorist attacks in retaliation of you attacking a man your own father armed. You will rape your own first amendment in return for inflicting your fundamentalist beliefs on a nation founded on tolerance. I hereby christen you George 'Nehemiah Scudder' Bush. Hear that spinning noise? It's your founding fathers spinning in their graves at the gibbering theocracy you've made from their republic.

And what the Heck is with CNN? "Antiwar rallies delight Baghdad"? anyone who is is opposed to war is clearly working for 'The Enemy'? CNN is not a news service, it's a propaganda feed.

This just in: "the time for diplomacy has passed". What? You never tried diplomacy, you only tried screaming at other countries that they should immediately fall into lock-step behind the US of A. You are leading the world into a war against Islam, which older and wiser minds (who've been through war before, unlike Bush, who's never served his country on the field of battle) have advised against.
